Family Type Parameter

A much underutilised parameter type is the Family Type. This allows you to assign different Family Types in you parameters, especially when using nested families.

This Parameter Type will allow you to have more control over the nested families in your project file, instead of having to go down the path of using additional parameters and complicated formulas.

The example below shows how these can be used in Revit Families.

Spot Elevations and Wireframe

If you are having troubles placing Spot Elevations in your model, just make sure that the Views Visual Style isn’t set to wireframe.

Spot elevations can’t be placed in a view set to wireframe.

Site Coordinates

There are two ways to establish the coordinates of your Revit Site, Acquire Coordinates and Specify Coordinates at Point.

Both of these methods for locating your site will give you the same result except when your Survey file has very large values for you Datum point. If you are using Acquire coordinates to locate you Site, ensure that you check the resulting values of your Survey point to make sure it is correct.

If you use Specify Coordinates at Point, then you will have no problem with large values.

So when you are using Acquire Coordinates, always check your results to ensure it matches the survey.
